Education crisis persists because FG neglects sector- ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has slammed the Federal Government for neglecting the education sector, saying this neglect is the root cause of the ongoing education crisis in Nigeria. ASUU President Prof. Chris Piwuna stated that government officials don’t consider education problems as national concerns requiring collective responsibility.

The union has been at loggerheads with the government over issues like unpaid salary arrears, poor funding, and the introduction of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS). ASUU has threatened to resume its strike if the government doesn’t meet its demands within the next two weeks.

The Federal Government, however, claims to have met most of ASUU’s demands and is working to resolve the remaining issues. Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa emphasized that the government is committed to keeping students in school and finding a solution to the crisis.
