John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will remove visa fees for all African nationals and immediately roll out a fully electronic e-Visa system as part of efforts to deepen continental integration and improve travel efficiency across Africa.
Under the new arrangement, travelers will no longer face lengthy visa-on-arrival processes, as the automated biometric e-Visa platform is expected to provide faster processing and enhanced security through real-time background checks and digital verification systems.
The President said the initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader commitment to promoting the free movement of people, trade, tourism, and investment across the continent. With the latest policy shift, Ghana joins countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, Benin, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Togo in easing travel access for African citizens.
Government also announced that work and residence permit processes will be digitized to improve efficiency, transparency, and convenience for applicants and investors seeking opportunities in Ghana.
In addition, authorities revealed that new 3D security scanners will be installed at Accra International Airport by August, allowing passengers to keep laptops and liquids in their bags during screening as part of efforts to modernize airport operations and improve the overall travel experience.
