Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed claims that he suggested former President Muhammadu Buhari had any connection with Boko Haram.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied accusing late President Muhammadu Buhari of having ties with Boko Haram, saying his remarks were grossly misrepresented. Jonathan clarified that he was highlighting Boko Haram’s deceptive tactics, not implying Buhari’s involvement.

He explained that Boko Haram had nominated Buhari as a mediator during his tenure, but this doesn’t mean Buhari had any connection with the group. Jonathan questioned why Boko Haram didn’t end its terrorist activities when Buhari became president if he was indeed their chosen negotiator.

Jonathan reaffirmed that Buhari, like every patriotic Nigerian, stood firmly against terrorism and was himself a target of Boko Boko Haram attacks.

Garba Shehu, Buhari’s former spokesperson, disputed Jonathan’s claims, saying Boko Haram leaders never nominated Buhari as a mediator and actually threatened him. Jonathan’s office urged the public to disregard any misinterpretation of his remarks, emphasizing his commitment to peace, unity, and democratic values in Nigeria.
