Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied accusing late President Muhammadu Buhari of having links with Boko Haram, saying his remarks were grossly misrepresented. In a statement, Jonathan clarified that his comments were taken out of context and aimed to highlight Boko Haram’s deceptive tactics during its early years.
According to Jonathan, Boko Haram had nominated Buhari as a mediator during his tenure, but this doesn’t imply Buhari had any connection with the group. He emphasized that Buhari, like every patriotic Nigerian, stood firmly against terrorism and was himself a target of Boko Haram attacks.
Jonathan’s office urged Nigerians to disregard misinterpretations of his remarks, reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, and strengthening democratic values in Nigeria.
