Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s recent ambassadorial nominations, calling them “shocking” and questioning the leadership quality behind the selections. Obi expressed concern that the nominees may not effectively represent Nigeria globally, citing the country’s current economic and security challenges.
Some of the notable nominees include:
– Former Government Officials: Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, ex-aviation minister; Mahmood Yakubu, former INEC chairman; and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ex-Enugu governor
– Business Leaders: Fola Adeola, founder of Guaranty Trust Bank; and Angela Adebayo, former Ekiti First Lady
– Diplomats: Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu, and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are
Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s suffering is a silent burden, pointing to the humiliating remark from the American president referring to Nigeria as a “now disgraced country”. He urged the government to prioritize citizens’ welfare over political celebrations and extravagant lifestyles.
