Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi is demanding answers from military authorities over the withdrawal of troops from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, just hours before bandits abducted 25 female students. The governor is questioning who authorized the withdrawal, especially since the state government had received intelligence reports of a possible attack and had convened a security meeting.
The military personnel were reportedly deployed to the school around 3 a.m., but they withdrew, and the attackers struck less than 45 minutes later. Governor Idris has called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal, expressing concern over the security lapse.
The abduction has sparked widespread outrage, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other organizations condemning the attack and calling for the safe return of the students. The federal government has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to rescue the abducted girls, with Vice President Kashim Shettima visiting Kebbi State to assess the situation.
