Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is calling on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, following the latest mass abduction of schoolchildren in Niger State. Atiku expressed his heartbreak and frustration, stating that it’s time for decisive action against the growing wave of kidnappings and attacks across the country.
He emphasized that Nigeria cannot continue on this path, urging the government to urgently review and strengthen the nation’s security architecture, deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-led operations. Atiku’s plea comes after a series of devastating attacks, including the abduction of 25 students from a school in Kebbi State and the killing of a vice principal.
The opposition leader stressed that the situation has reached intolerable levels, with similar tragedies unfolding in Plateau, Benue, and other states. He urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action, prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians.
