Shehu Sani, a former senator, has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action against Nigeria, describing the country as a “disgraced country” over alleged persecution of Christians. Sani responded on social media, saying, “My country is not a ‘disgraced country’ and will never be a ‘disgraced country’. Anyone who is proud of his mother who gave birth to him after months of labour in his ancestral land, will not accept his land being called ‘disgraced'”.
Sani emphasized Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, welcoming support and assistance to combat security challenges, but not foreign aggression. He also called on the Nigerian government to step up efforts to protect its citizens and secure the country.
The former senator’s response aligns with the Nigerian government’s stance, which has rejected Trump’s allegations of religious intolerance and emphasized the need for respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
