Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 12, 2026, at age 40.

His family released an official statement on his Instagram page on May 13, saying he died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after a “brief but courageous battle” with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. They described it as stage 4 kidney cancer, meaning the cancer had spread from the kidneys to other parts of the body.

The statement called him a “beloved husband, son, brother and friend” and said he faced his illness with “remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope”. The family asked for privacy and prayers, and said funeral arrangements would be shared later.

Alexx had been off social media since Dec 30, 2024, which sparked concern among fans. He was known for films like _Weekend Getaway_, _Omo Ghetto: The Saga_, _The Bling Lagosians_, and for appearing in Yemi Alade’s “Johnny” music video. Beyond acting, he was active in humanitarian and youth advocacy work.

Tributes have come in from colleagues like Funke Akindele, Omoni Oboli, Mo Abudu, and Kate Henshaw.
