Influencer Ashlee Jenae, legal name Ashly Robinson, 31, died April 10, 2026, in Zanzibar, Tanzania during a birthday trip with fiancé Joe McCann. Her remains were flown back to her family in New Jersey on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Her father, Harry Robinson, told TMZ none of her personal belongings were returned — _“including her engagement ring”_. The family _“has no idea if or when they’ll get those items back”_ and believes Tanzanian investigators are holding them because _“the case remains active”_.
Jenae was found unresponsive in her hotel room at Zuri Zanzibar on April 9, days after McCann proposed on April 3. She died at a hospital one day later. Tanzanian authorities ruled it a suicide by hanging, citing a dispute between Jenae and McCann that led hotel staff to separate them into different rooms.
The family rejects the suicide ruling, calling her a _“beacon of light”_ who showed _“no signs of wanting to harm herself”_. They’ve commissioned an independent autopsy, with results still pending. They also say they’ve _“heard little from McCann since her death”_ and are trying to obtain hotel surveillance footage. Funeral services were planned for early this week in New Jersey.
The missing ring has sparked heavy speculation online, with users calling for deeper investigation into hotel workers and McCann. Some outlets reported the ring was _“discovered on someone else — not her fiancé”_, but TMZ and other major sources say it’s still _“unaccounted for”.
The case remains under investigation in Tanzania.
