The Lagos State Government has assured residents that the flooding experienced in parts of Lekki on Tuesday is temporary and will subside as tidal conditions normalise.
Heavy rainfall across the Lekki axis triggered flash floods and temporary tidal lock-ups, leading to severe traffic congestion on major routes, including the Chisco Elegushi corridor and the Elf area, with the gridlock stretching back to Jakande First Gate.

Nigeria has been ranked 142nd out of 182 countries in Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), maintaining its score of 26 from 2024.
The CPI, which measures perceived public sector corruption on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean), shows that little progress has been made in tackling corruption, as Nigeria slipped two places from its 140th position last year.
The country’s score remains far below the global average of 43, which fell slightly to 42 in 2025, with over two-thirds of nations scoring below 50. In Africa, Nigeria ranks behind 33 other countries, including Seychelles (68), Cabo Verde (62), Botswana (58), and Rwanda (58). Other African nations ahead of Nigeria include Mauritius, Namibia, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, and Egypt.
The report underscores persistent challenges in Nigeria’s fight against corruption and the need for stronger governance and accountability measures to improve the country’s standing globally.
