Yahaya Bello, the former Kogi State governor, is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC has emphasized that Bello’s trial is ongoing, and it’s the court’s responsibility to determine his guilt or innocence, not the commission’s. The anti-graft agency is presenting witnesses and evidence, and the outcome will be decided solely by the court.
Bello is facing charges related to money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and fraudulent acquisition of properties, with the EFCC alleging he diverted approximately ₦80.2 billion of Kogi State funds. However, Bello has denied all allegations, describing the charges as fabricated and politically motivated.
