Six passengers have been confirmed dead, and four rescued following a boat accident along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun Water Channel in Lagos. The incident occurred around 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, involving a Savvy Marine passenger boat en route from Ilashe Beach House. Preliminary findings suggest the accident may have been caused by a collision with a submerged object, but investigations are ongoing.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) have expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety on Lagos inland waterways. They also emphasized the importance of adhering to safety regulations, including proper navigation practices and the “no night travel” rule.
