The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) will serve as the Tax Identification Number (TIN) for individuals, while the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) number will be used for businesses. This move aims to streamline tax administration and improve efficiency.
FIRS cited the Companies Income Tax Act (CITA) and the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) as the basis for this decision, emphasizing the need for accurate taxpayer identification. This change is part of broader efforts to enhance tax compliance and modernize Nigeria’s tax system.
