TikTok has temporarily restricted livestreams at night in Nigeria, specifically from 11 pm to 5 am, as part of an ongoing safety investigation. This means Nigerian users can’t host or view live broadcasts during these hours, including those from other countries.
The restriction is likely due to concerns over inappropriate content and safety issues, as nighttime live sessions have been exploited for adult-themed content. TikTok has removed millions of videos and thousands of live sessions in Nigeria for violating community guidelines.
Popular TikToker Peller has spoken out about the restriction, stating it won’t significantly impact his income, as he has multiple brand endorsements. However, many creators rely on nighttime livestreams for engagement and revenue, so this restriction may affect them financially.
TikTok hasn’t announced when the restriction will be lifted, but they’re committed to ensuring the platform remains safe for users.
