Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has received 100 schoolchildren who were abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, on November 21. The children, aged between 10 and 17, were welcomed by Governor Bago at the Government House in Minna, alongside other state officials.
The abduction, which involved 303 students and 12 teachers, has sparked widespread concern over Nigeria’s security situation. While 50 pupils managed to escape shortly after the incident, the release of the remaining 100 children brings hope to the families of the still-missing students.
The circumstances surrounding the release are unclear, but it’s believed to be part of the government’s efforts to address the country’s security challenges. President Bola Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency and ordered the recruitment of additional security personnel.
