FRANCE PLEDGES SUPPORT TO NIGERIA ON REGIONAL SECURITY

France has pledged to support Nigeria in addressing its security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the northern region. French President Emmanuel Macron made this commitment after speaking with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing France’s solidarity with Nigeria.

Key Areas of Support:

– _Strengthening Partnership_: France will enhance its partnership with Nigerian authorities to combat terrorism.
– _Affected Populations_: France will provide support to communities affected by violence.
– _International Cooperation_: Macron urged global partners to increase engagement, stating, “No one can remain a spectator”.

This commitment comes amid Nigeria’s efforts to tackle insecurity, including Boko Haram’s long-running insurgency and armed kidnapping gangs. The US has also offered support, with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth hosting Nigeria’s National Security Adviser to discuss strategies.

France’s support will likely focus on training, intelligence sharing, and responding to Nigeria’s requests, building on their existing diplomatic relations since 1960.
