The Abuja High Court has adjourned the defamation case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, to February 23, 2026. This decision follows an application by the Federal Government, despite objections from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Ehiogie West Idahosa, who argued that the prosecution’s request was not properly served.

Akpoti-Uduaghan is facing a three-count charge of criminal defamation related to her claim that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello plotted to kill her. The prosecution maintains that the charges were filed after a thorough investigation and are consistent with Nigerian laws.

The court’s decision to adjourn was made in the interest of justice, with Justice Chizoba Oji acknowledging that the prosecution’s application didn’t meet the required threshold. Akpoti-Uduaghan was accompanied to court by her husband.
