The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, on Saturday, urged the judiciary to eliminate all forms of delay and prioritise accelerated hearing of cases of sexual violence.

The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, has emphasized the need for the judiciary to prioritize accelerated hearings for sexual violence cases. This call to action comes as part of the Ogun State Judiciary’s efforts to enhance criminal justice and promote human rights.

Justice Dipeolu’s statement is backed by concrete actions, as the Ogun State Judiciary has launched a two-week decongestion drive at the Sagamu Correctional Centre. A special panel of eight magistrates has been deployed to hear 201 cases, focusing on accelerated hearings, review of eligible cases, and consideration of non-custodial measures.

This initiative aims to:
– Enhance Justice Delivery: Reduce unnecessary delays and address congestion challenges without compromising public safety or legal due process.
– Promote Human Rights: Safeguard the rights of all persons concerned, especially those in custody.
– Streamline Operations: Improve the management of custodial facilities across the state.

The Ogun State Judiciary is working closely with the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Police, Nigerian Bar Association, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative.
