Customs order mandatory drug tests for recruits and serving officers.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has introduced mandatory drug tests for all new recruits and serving officers. This move aims to ensure that officers are fit for duty and don’t compromise security or operational integrity due to substance abuse. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, announced this decision during the closing session of the CGC’s 2025 Conference in Abuja, citing instances where erratic behavior or poor decision-making was linked to substance misuse.

Key Highlights:

– Mandatory Drug Testing: All incoming officers and men will undergo drug tests as part of the recruitment exercise.
– Serving Officers Included: Serving officers will also be tested as the Service works towards becoming a “fully drug-free institution”.
– Substance Abuse Concerns: The decision addresses concerns about officers making sensitive decisions while under the influence of drugs.
– Health and Fitness: Officers are reminded to prioritize their health and undergo regular medical checks.

This move is part of the NCS’s efforts to maintain a professional and trustworthy force, ensuring public safety and security.
