Atiku Abubakar officially joins ADC

Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. He received his ADC membership card at Jada Ward 1 in Adamawa, surrounded by supporters and party leaders. Atiku, a former Vice President, had previously resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, citing irreconcilable differences and a shift in the party’s direction.

This move is seen as a major boost to the ADC, which has been adopted as a coalition platform by opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Atiku’s entry is expected to strengthen the party’s national presence and appeal.

Atiku’s decision to join the ADC was announced on his social media handle, where he posted a photo of himself holding his membership card, simply stating, “It’s official”.
