The moment Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Reportedly Arrived Sokoto Correctional Facility.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reportedly arrived at the Sokoto Correctional Facility on November 21, 2025. His wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, confirmed the arrival, expressing concern over the news reaching the public before she was informed. The transfer was made after Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja for terrorism-related charges.

The move has sparked controversy, with Kanu’s legal team and family expressing concerns about his safety and access to medical care. The Sokoto Correctional Facility is located in a region with security challenges, and Kanu’s transfer has been met with protests and calls for his relocation to a safer facility.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, has questioned the decision to transfer him to Sokoto, citing the distance from his legal team and support system. The IPOB leader’s personal physician has also raised alarms about the potential risks to Kanu’s health, given the limited medical facilities in Sokoto.
