Suspected Lakurawa terr+rists, locally referred to as b@ndits, on Tuesday afternoon ambushed the convoy of Hon. Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, who represents Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency in Niger State, k+lling a soldier and inj¥ring several others.
The attack took place along the Lumma Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area as the lawmaker was heading to Babanna town for an official function.
Witnesses said the g+nmen, who had laid an ambush around 1pm, opened f+re on the convoy, taking Damisa’s security detail and aides by surprise.

“One soldier was k+lled instantly, while about eight others sustained inj¥ries,” a source said, adding that four supporters of the lawmaker were also hit by stray bullets but survived.
The assailants reportedly vandalised about 11 vehicles during the att@ck, riddling them with bullets and forcing the convoy to halt. Troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna later arrived and engaged the att@ckers in a fierce g+n battle, forcing them to retreat into the forest.
Hon. Damisa was said to have escaped unhurt following the swift intervention of the security team and reinforcements.
