The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced plans to introduce a Single Travel Emergency Passport.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is launching a Single Travel Emergency Passport (STEP) to assist citizens abroad with lost, stolen, or expired passports. This biometric, one-time travel document will enable them to return home securely and efficiently.

Key Features of STEP:

– Issuance: STEP will be issued at designated Nigerian embassies and consulates abroad.
– Validity: Valid for single entry into Nigeria.
– Security: Provides secure and verifiable identification for Nigerians returning home.
– Replacement: STEP will replace the existing Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC).

The introduction of STEP is part of the NIS’s ongoing reforms to strengthen identity management, border governance, and migration management systems in line with global best practices. This initiative aims to enhance assistance to citizens in distress abroad and promote safe, orderly, and regular migration.
