The situation in Taraba State is dire, with the Holy Family Catholic Parish reporting renewed attacks by suspected herders on several communities in Takum Local Government Area. These attacks have led to widespread destruction of farmlands and mass displacement of residents.
Affected Communities:
– Tarhembe and Tornyi: Farms burnt, one person critically injured, and 402 residents displaced
– Asuku and Mbakyula: Two people critically injured, 150 residents displaced
– Imbor, Mbaaga, Chakera, Hoyoo, Mbayatsav, Genda, and Ikyor: 200 people fled after farms were razed
– Tir-Lijam, Akaajo, Abunde, Akase, Ikyo-Dam, and Iortev: Villages deserted, displacing 560 residents
– Ikper, Kur-Hindi, Wombo, Kwaghcia, and Angaha: 400 people forced from homes after farmlands were set ablaze
The Catholic Church is urging the government and security agencies to take swift action to prevent further violence and avert a looming humanitarian crisis.
