Omoyele Sowore has finally regained his freedom after being detained at Kuje Prison in Abuja for four days. He was arrested alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s younger brother Emmanuel, and 11 other protesters during a #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration.
Sowore was granted bail of ₦500,000 with conditions, including presenting a verified National Identification Number, submitting three-year tax clearance certificates, and depositing his international passport. He fulfilled these requirements and walked out of prison, denouncing his detention as “illegal”.
The protesters faced charges of unlawful assembly and disturbing public peace. Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, plans to continue advocating for Nnamdi Kanu’s release and democratic reforms.
