Six NYSC corps members have taken the Anambra State Government to court, seeking N1 billion in damages after being allegedly assaulted and unlawfully detained by the Agunechemba Vigilante Group. The incident, captured in a viral video, shows the corps members being beaten, with one female member, Jennifer Elohor, stripped naked.
The plaintiffs are demanding compensation for physical, emotional, and psychological trauma. They’re also seeking a court declaration that their arrest and detention were unlawful and unconstitutional. Additionally, they want the respondents to issue a public apology in national and local newspapers.
The NYSC and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) have condemned the assault, calling for justice and prosecution of those involved.
