FIFA has sparked controversy by updating its Twitter header with an image of the $1.2 million artificial pitch built by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Kebbi State. The move has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many interpreting it as a subtle jab at the NFF amid allegations of fund mismanagement.
The NFF has responded, stating that all FIFA and CAF funds are tied to specific projects and undergo strict auditing. They’ve cited ongoing projects, such as the NFF/FIFA Players’ Hostel and training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, as proof of transparent fund usage.
The controversy began when football critic Chinedu Mobike accused the NFF of squandering millions of dollars meant for infrastructure projects, including the Kebbi stadium and another in Ugborodo, Delta State. The NFF has denied embezzlement claims, describing them as misinformation.
