The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike, giving the Federal Government a one-month ultimatum to address outstanding issues affecting Nigeria’s public universities. The union’s demands include implementing the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, improving lecturers’ welfare, revitalizing public universities, and resolving promotion arrears and withheld salaries.
ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the suspension, citing progress in talks with government officials and interventions by the National Assembly. The union warns it will resume the strike without notice if the government fails to meet its demands within the one-month window.
