Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has expressed concern that the church is losing its relevance and true value in society. He attributes this decline to an excessive focus on material prosperity at the expense of the gospel of salvation. Ewhrudjakpo emphasizes that the church’s primary objective should be the salvation of humanity, rather than just promoting prosperity.
He’s also worried about the proliferation of Christian groups with divergent goals, which he believes weakens the church’s strength. The deputy governor urges Christians to play a strategic role in politics, promote good governance, and uphold positive societal values. Ewhrudjakpo stresses the need for religious leaders to prioritize the gospel of salvation over miracles and prosperity messages.
