The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently destroyed over 8,166.95 kilograms of illicit substances in Yobe State, marking a historic milestone as the first public destruction of its kind in the state’s history. The destroyed substances included:
– 6,791.249 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa
– 1,375.65 kilograms of psychotropic substances
– 0.04 kilograms of cocaine
– 0.012 kilograms of heroin
The NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Marwa, described the event as a “historic and symbolic milestone” in the war against drug abuse, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The destruction was part of the agency’s efforts to ensure seized substances don’t re-enter circulation.
This significant move demonstrates the NDLEA’s dedication to combating drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria. The agency has been working tirelessly to rid the country of illicit substances, with notable seizures and destruction efforts recorded in various parts of the country.
