Lagos state Government set to commence $3 billion Green Line rail project connecting Marina to Lekki by December.

The Lagos State Government is set to commence the $3 billion Green Line rail project, connecting Marina to Lekki, in December 2025. This 70-kilometer rail line will feature 17 stations and provide a vital transportation link between key areas of Lagos, enhancing connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.

Key Features of the Project:

– Route: The rail line will run from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, passing through Victoria Island, Lekki, and other surrounding communities.
– Stations: 17 stations are planned, with modern designs and amenities like pedestrian bridges, elevators, and escalators.
– Capacity: The system is expected to carry 35,000 passengers per hour per direction, with trains operating at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
– Phases: The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase covering the stretch from Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, and the second phase featuring an on-water segment starting from Marina.
– Funding: The project has partial federal counterpart funding of N146.14 billion included in the 2025 budget, and a tripartite agreement has been signed with China Harbour Engineering Company to design, finance, and operate the line.
