New song Davido and Adekunle Gold ‘Only God Can Save me’ Out Now

Adekunle Gold has always been recognized for being true to his roots. It should come as no surprise that he has a project named after “Fuji,” one of the most well-known musical genres in Nigeria. This sixth project album is expected to combine our tale, worldwide history, Lagos life, and nostalgia. Adekunle Gold is aiming for more than nostalgia, though. “This is not nostalgia,” he said. Reinvention is what this is. This is how I’m preserving my heritage for the future.

‘Fuji’ houses fifteen melodies and four of them have proven to be worthwhile rhythms. “Bobo”, the only song with featured artistes (Lojay & Shoday), the infamous “Coco Money, and “Obimo” taking the outro position. A new single “Believe” dropped earlier today — a song that samples the classic 70s single “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers & Grover Washington Jr. It is important to note that previous single “Coco Money” also heavily interpolates Rihanna’s 2015 single “B*tch Better Have My Money” which has Ye fka Kanye West and Travis Scott as songwriters. It is safe to say that we can expect more iconic samples on the full length album.

Adekunle Gold shared some insight into the album through his newsletter; the track 6 “My Love is The Same” is a love letter to his daughter while “I’m Not Done” serves as a reminder that the journey ‘never really ends.’

Track 11 titled “Lailo” is culled from the classic K1 De Ultimate song “Awa Tunde Batinde” — it will be interesting to hear what Adekunle Gold’s version of the song would sound like.

The artiste previously revealed on his social media during the album announcement that the features on the album are hidden. So we can expect a lot more contributors and a special feeling of discovery during the release of the album— however we know Davido will surely be on the project.

Watch out for October 3rd to gain the full experience.
