NAFDAC recently destroyed ₦15 billion worth of fake, expired, and substandard drugs in Oyo State. The destroyed products included:
– Expired Medicines: Analgin, Cocodamol, Codeine cough syrup, Tramadol, Oxytocin, and various vaccines
– Counterfeit Products: Falsified vaccines, unregistered medicines, and illegally manufactured cosmetics
The destruction aimed to prevent these harmful products from re-entering the Nigerian market and posing serious health risks to citizens. NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and efficacy of food, drugs, and other regulated products.

– Street Value: The destroyed products had an estimated street value of ₦15 billion
– Arrests and Prosecution: NAFDAC arrested a suspect linked to a shipment of falsely labeled anti-malaria drugs and plans to prosecute them
– Collaboration: The agency thanked the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and other partners for their support in the operation
– Public Awareness: NAFDAC urged community leaders, health professionals, and the media to educate the public on the dangers of patronizing unlicensed medicine dealers and quacks
