The reconciliation meeting between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Dangote Refinery has been relocated to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). This development comes after the meeting, initially aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute between the two parties, ended in deadlock on Monday.
Key Details of the Dispute:
– Labour Issues: The dispute revolves around unresolved labour issues, including the alleged illegal dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers at Dangote Refinery for joining PENGASSAN.
– Strike Action: PENGASSAN has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike, prompting the Federal Government to intervene and summon both parties to a conciliation meeting.
– Court Injunction: The National Industrial Court has restrained PENGASSAN from embarking on its planned industrial action against Dangote Refinery, citing potential damage to the refinery’s business and the provision of essential services to the Nigerian public.
Meeting Developments:
– Minister’s Involvement: The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Dingyadi, has been actively involved in the reconciliation efforts, urging both parties to approach the meeting with a spirit of compromise and mutual respect.
– Closed-Door Talks: The meeting at the NSA’s office is being held behind closed doors, indicating the sensitive nature of the discussions and the government’s efforts to find a resolution.
