Lagos state government reopens Ogudu/Ifako Bridge after months of repairs.

The Lagos State Government has reopened the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge after completing major repair works ahead of schedule. The bridge, which was partially closed to vehicular traffic for several months, was reopened on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The repairs were done in phases, affecting both lanes of the bridge, and were aimed at guaranteeing safety and preventing further damage.

Key Highlights of the Reopening:

– Early Completion: The repair works, initially scheduled for 101 days, were completed in 78 days, thanks to the collaboration of contractors, security agencies, and the patience of Lagos residents.
– Traffic Relief: The reopening is expected to ease traffic congestion along one of Lagos’s busiest routes, cut travel time, and reduce fuel costs for commuters.
– Future Plans: The state government has announced plans to undertake similar maintenance works in the Maza-Maza area as part of its infrastructure renewal drive.

Government Officials’ Remarks:

– Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, commended residents for their endurance during the partial closure and urged them to protect the facilities, stressing that they are funded with taxpayers’ money and designed to provide long-term benefits.
– Seun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, expressed gratitude to Lagos residents for their understanding and cooperation, promising that the state government would continue its infrastructure renewal drive.
