Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has resumed her duties at the Senate after a six-month suspension, sparking controversy with her comments about Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Upon returning to her office, she described her suspension as “unjust and politically motivated,” expressing gratitude to her constituents and supporters.
Key Highlights of Senator Natasha’s Resumption:
– Accusations Against Akpabio: Natasha accused Akpabio of running the Senate like a dictatorship, stating, “He treated me like I was his servant or domestic staff in his house. It’s very unfortunate that at this time, after so many years of democracy, we would have a National Assembly being run by such dictatorship. It’s totally unacceptable”.
– Refusal to Apologize: Natasha refused to apologize to the Senate leadership, questioning the legitimacy of her suspension and calling the process “fraudulent”. She emphasized that she wouldn’t apologize for an injustice, stating, “You can’t apologise for an injustice”.
– Continued Commitment to Constituents: Despite her suspension, Natasha maintained that she continued to work for her constituents, seeking opportunities to bring infrastructure and jobs to Kogi Central.
– Legal Battle: The senator is still embroiled in a legal battle with the Senate leadership, with her lawyers challenging the validity of the charges against her.
