FCT doctors begin an indefinite strike.

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has commenced an indefinite strike, effective Monday, September 15, 2025. The strike follows a seven-day warning strike that ended without meaningful dialogue or resolution on the doctors’ demands.

Key Demands:
– Payment of Salary Arrears: Immediate payment of outstanding salaries to members employed since 2023
– Recruitment of New Doctors: Urgent recruitment to address manpower shortages
– Medical Residency Training Fund: Payment of the 2025 MRTF to support doctors’ training
– Hazard Allowance: Payment of 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears
– Improved Working Conditions: Renovation and equipping of FCT hospitals to globally acceptable standards

The doctors are also seeking:
– Promotion Exercises: Implementation of promotion exercises and payment of arrears
– Correction of Irregular Salary Payments: Stoppage of unexplained deductions and correction of irregular payments

The strike is expected to impact healthcare services in Abuja, with patients likely facing delays, longer waiting hours, or outright denial of medical attention. The ARD-FCTA has urged the government to demonstrate genuine commitment to addressing their demands and improving the healthcare system in the FCT.
