The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has commenced a five-day warning strike today.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has indeed commenced a five-day warning strike starting from today, September 12, 2025. The strike is in response to the Federal Government’s failure to address the doctors’ demands, which include:
– Unpaid Allowances: Non-payment of specialist and hazard allowances
– Salary Arrears: Five months’ arrears from the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS)
– Welfare Issues: Non-disbursement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund

The strike, which will run until September 16, 2025, is expected to disrupt clinical services in teaching and specialist hospitals nationwide, potentially leaving patients stranded. NARD had given the Federal Government a 21-day deadline in July 2025, later extended by 10 days, which lapsed on September 10, and a final 24-hour ultimatum that expired on September 11 without a meaningful response from the authorities.
