Japan has designated Kisarazu city in Chiba Prefecture as the official hometown for Nigerians willing to live and work in the country. This initiative aims to boost cultural diplomacy, deepen economic ties, and address workforce shortages. The partnership includes a special visa category for highly skilled and talented young Nigerians, including artisans and blue-collar workers willing to upskill.
The program, facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to foster manpower development, strengthen bilateral exchanges, and support regional revitalization efforts. Other African countries paired with Japanese cities include Tanzania with Nagai in Yamagata Prefecture, Ghana with Sanjo in Niigata Prefecture, and Mozambique with Imabari in Ehime Prefecture.
This initiative is part of Japan’s efforts to strengthen ties with African countries and address its demographic challenges. The partnership is expected to promote cultural exchange, people-to-people ties, and economic growth between Japan and Nigeria.
