South Africa disconnected power supply to the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria over unpaid utility bills, but it was restored after the debt was settled. The City of Tshwane’s executive mayor, Nasiphi Moya, confirmed the disconnection and later thanked the commission for honouring its debt.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs attributed the disconnection to funding constraints caused by delays in the country’s 2026 national budget. This incident highlights concerns about Nigerian diplomatic missions’ operational challenges abroad, including funding and administrative issues.
