Nigeria’s passport has indeed gotten a boost, moving up to 89th position out of 199 countries globally in the 2026 Henley Passport Index! This ranking means Nigerian passport holders can access 44 destinations without a visa or with visa-on-arrival access. Although it’s an improvement from 94th last year, Nigeria still faces challenges competing globally, ranking seventh least powerful in Africa.
The Henley Passport Index considers visa-free access, visa-on-arrival, and electronic travel authority (ETA) policies. Nigeria’s score reflects its limited global mobility, lagging behind African leaders like Seychelles (24th), Mauritius (27th), and South Africa (48th).
