Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has emphasized that t+rrorist att+cks in Nigeria target all faiths and are not tied to any particular religion, stating, “t+rrorists have no religion.” He made the remarks during a private television programme, citing recent att@cks on mosques in Zamfara and Katsina as examples.
Karimi alleged that some individuals are attempting to misrepresent Nigeria internationally, but noted that security agencies are actively investigating to expose them. “Recent events in the country are attempts to spread insecurity for political gain,” he added.
The senator outlined proposed measures to tackle insecurity, including a National Emergency and Security Act that would allocate 5% of national revenue to fund security operations.
He stressed the importance of functional local governments, arguing that weak administrations contribute to rising insecurity.
Karimi disclosed his personal contributions to security, including a forward operational base, vehicles, gunboats, bulletproof jackets, and helmets donated to security agencies. He also emphasized local government autonomy to prevent sabotage, create youth employment, and accelerate community development.
He noted that the Senate is collaborating with security agencies to deploy police and military personnel to vulnerable schools, while the President has ordered the withdrawal of security personnel from VIPs to strengthen field operations. Karimi suggested that establishing state police could also be necessary, citing examples from other countries.
