Federal Government to implement single window policy at Nigerian ports by 2026.

The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to implement a National Single Window (NSW) system at Nigerian ports by 2026 to revolutionize trade efficiency, reduce cargo clearance time, and enhance transparency. This initiative, described as a “game changer” by Vice President Kashim Shettima, aims to:
– Reduce cargo clearance time: From 21 days to under 7 days, making Nigerian ports more efficient and competitive.
– Harmonize documentation: Creating a single platform for all port-related processes, minimizing human contact, and increasing transparency.
– Improve port operations: By fostering inter-agency collaboration, eliminating bottlenecks, and promoting predictability and speed in cargo clearance.

Key Objectives:

– Enhance consumer protection: Through regular surveillance and inspections to ensure accurate weighing and measuring equipment.
– Promote transparency and accountability: By reducing human contact and increasing transparency in cargo clearance processes.
– Boost economic competitiveness: By positioning Nigerian ports among the top three most efficient trade gateways in Africa.

The implementation of the National Single Window policy is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s maritime trade sector, making it more efficient, transparent, and competitive.
