The Nigerian Senate has confirmed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, following a swift screening process at the National Assembly in Abuja. This confirmation comes after President Bola Tinubu nominated Oluyede and other service chiefs, urging the Senate to give “expeditious consideration” to the appointments.
Other confirmed nominees include:
– Major General Waheedi Shaibu: Chief of Army Staff
– Rear Admiral Idi Abbas: Chief of Naval Staff
– Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke: Chief of Air Staff
– Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye: Chief of Defence Intelligence
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the nominees, stating, “On behalf of the entire Senate, I congratulate you on your well-deserved appointments and commend you for the years of dedicated service you have rendered to our great nation.” This confirmation strengthens Nigeria’s national security architecture and improves coordination among military and intelligence agencies.
