Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s US visa has been revoked, effective immediately. The US Consulate General in Lagos informed him of the decision in a letter dated October 23, 2025, citing US Department of State regulations.

Soyinka expressed surprise and confusion, stating he’s unaware of any wrongdoing that could have led to the revocation. He holds a B1/B2 visa, typically used for temporary business or tourism travel.

The reason for the revocation remains unclear, but Soyinka speculates it might be linked to his criticism of former US President Donald Trump. The US government has recently tightened immigration policies, aiming to curb migrant influx.
