A policeman in Delta State has been arrested for shooting at a moving vehicle in Asaba. The incident, captured on video, shows the officer firing at the vehicle’s tyre, causing panic among passersby. The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest, describing the officer’s conduct as “unprofessional and unbecoming of a police officer”.
The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed internal disciplinary action and an investigation into the incident. The officer reportedly responded to a hit-and-run case, but his use of firearms was deemed unjustified, violating Force Order 237.
The police command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to maintain confidence in their professionalism and accountability.
