Prof. Joash Amupitan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is set to assume office next week, just in time to oversee the November 8 Anambra State governorship election. Amupitan, a seasoned legal scholar and administrator, was confirmed by the Senate on October 16, 2025, bringing a wealth of experience in law, academia, and governance to the role.
As the first Kogi-born INEC Chairman, Amupitan is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the electoral process, leveraging his expertise in corporate governance, law of evidence, and privatization law. With a strong focus on transparency, professionalism, and accountability, he aims to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system and restore public confidence.
