The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), succeeding Professor Mahmood Yakubu. Amupitan, a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, was screened by the Senate and approved for the position. He’s expected to enhance electoral credibility, transparency, and institutional independence within INEC, and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic processes.
