The Nigeria Police Force says enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit has been suspended following a court order halting the exercise.

The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of vehicle tinted glass permits following a court order. The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, issued the suspension order on October 3, 2025, directing the police to maintain the status quo pending further proceedings.

The police had introduced the tinted glass permit policy citing security concerns, arguing that some criminals were using vehicles with tinted windows to commit crimes. However, motorists and rights groups had criticized the policy, alleging harassment, extortion, and unconstitutionality.

The suspension is a huge relief for motorists who had expressed frustration over the enforcement, with some reporting difficulties in obtaining permits and others facing harassment at checkpoints. The police have stated they will respect the court’s decision and await the final verdict.
